Will You Stand?

Many people think what you believe does not matter if you are sincere. One religion is just as good as another. Your political party does not matter. Who you choose for friends, does not matter.  But the fact is what you believe DOES matter.

We have all seen the aftermath of earthquakes and the damage caused by them. Some buildings crumble while others are left standing. The reason some stand is because their foundation was strong enough to bear the stress of the earthquake. All the buildings were put to the test but only those with the strongest foundations stood.

We all face stress in our lives. Some can go through it, still standing when it is all done, while others crumble and fall. Standing up to stress means staying faithful to your spouse, working hard, and maintaining a moral and spiritual focus. Crumbling means taking the easy way out.

At some point in our lives, we all face trials and storms, but the question is, “Will what you are building stand, or will it be washed away by the pressure of life?” Some build on their own intelligence or skills. Others build on their wealth.

But the only sure foundation is the Bible, the very Word of God! If the Bible is not your game plan for life then you will fail.  Matthew 7:24-27 (The Message) says.

These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”

Are you building on the Rock or sand?
